Backpacking or Hiking

One of the best ways to get active outdoors during the winter is to go backpacking or hiking. There are so many beautiful places to go for a hike, including forest preserves and national parks. This is a great way to see nature’s beauty while getting active. Make sure to research tips for backpacking safely in the winter, so you can enjoy yourself. Going backpacking or hiking is calming for many people, so it’s sure to bring you some inner peace as well.

Sledding

Another fun way to get active outdoors during winter is sledding. Although this might not sound like a way to get active, it certainly can be! Drive around town and find a hill that looks steep enough for sledding. (If you walk up and down the hill, that’s a pretty good workout by itself.) The steeper the incline, the better the workout. This is also a fun activity to do if you have kids because they can join in the fun. If you don’t want to buy a sled, simply pick up an innertube from the store. This works perfect for anyone on a budget.

Take a Daily Walk

Lastly, consider taking a walk daily to get active during winter. Seasonal depression affects many people during the cold months. This can make it difficult to get up and moving, so taking a daily walk is a great way to get some fresh air. A daily walk that’s about 30 minutes can be extremely beneficial for mental and physical health. Even a walk that’s only 10 minutes can be beneficial. Getting active during the winter doesn’t have to be a challenge. There are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself in nature. Just make sure to bundle up!
