There’s no way to get through life without having a bad day here and there. For the most part, bad days are isolated incidents that we can let roll off our backs. However, some days just never seem to stop piling on the frustrations. When you have a significantly terrible day, it’s not always easy to just forget about it and move on. On such days, you need to take a more active approach to making yourself feel better. We’ll give you a few strategies for turning around a very bad day so you can get back to feeling one hundred percent.
Don’t Hold in Your Emotions
Bad days can become awful if you bury your feelings. The harder you try to not react to your frustrations, the more the little things will get to you. Consider talking with someone you trust and ask if it would be alright to vent to them for a little bit. Sometimes when you get your feelings out in the open, they can seem a lot more manageable than when you keep them locked inside.
Find a Worthy Distraction
A truly bad day can make it difficult to think about anything else except how bad it is, but a great strategy for turning a horrible day around is to find something worthwhile to distract yourself with. A hobby where you produce something—painting, writing, arts and crafts, etc.—is a great example since it gets your mind off what’s bothering you. Plus, in the end, you’ll have something you made. You don’t necessarily need to make something, though; you just need something to get your mind off of everything else. Stress-relieving activities such as video games or reading books can also provide distractions to reset your mind.
Remove Something From Your Schedule
Feeling overwhelmed is a common reason why people have bad days. It feels like there’s too much to do and not enough time in the day to do it all. When life starts to take a serious toll on you, it’s okay to show yourself a little compassion and push some of the less important tasks off until later. The feeling of relief you get from removing something from your to-do list is worth it. It’s better to do the task later when you’re feeling more up to it.
Physically Release Frustration
Releasing your tension in a productive and physical way is another good method for turning your day around. Exercise is important for many reasons, but it can also be a great way to let go of pent-up frustration. Transferring your emotions into a healthy physical activity will get your mind back into a better state so you can tackle the day.
